Oh the hot days of summer, how I love to laugh in your face.
Just kidding, I’m melting. Whenever the summer months turn gruesome, I always prefer to hideaway into a dark cold room, far, far from the heat, but alas, life cannot be so simple. When it is hotter, I try to opt for a short or a dress whenever I can. While shorts and tank tops tend to be my summer staples, putting on a tunic or a button up blouse can add a polished look while still looking breezy. Even shorts can be different and fun. While jeans tend to be the go-to easy solution, finding a short made out of linen or cotton can be a cooler alternative. Having a short made out of a fabric that diverts from the norm can give the outfit a completely new feel, and add diversity to one’s closet. The flats paired here also adds a little sparkle to my step
No matter the season, I try to combine looks that incorporate only a few pieces. A top that adds something extra to the ensemble, paired with an easy jean or short, can make the final look low maintenance. I also find that when I challenge myself to incorporate a certain garment, whether it be a blouse or pant, I end up having more clothing outfit options than I realized. Taking one garment and pairing it with other items that seem “unconventional” could lead to an inspiring moment that unleashes a plethora of ideas. Just think, maybe that one sequined top really does work great with those ripped skinny jeans and patent leather pumps, just as well as that sequined top would look great with an A-line leather skirt. Maybe? Even a simple t-shirt, if paired with leather pants, can go from zero to one-hundred, just like that. Playing with outfit ideas, especially in this heat, can prove to be invaluable when t-shirts and shorts are the only clothing items that seem to be worn endlessly through the summer months.
Memo to summer: even though it’s hot, cuteness does not have to be sacrificed.
