Ahhhh, more layers.
I’m noticing an inadvertent theme here. I mean, honestly, I have always HATED styling layers. Growing up my mother tried to instill in me the benefits of pairing a million different clothes, all I could see is that, yes, I may be warm the morning, but then my tote will become a makeshift closet filled with crap I can’t even begin to think to put on my body for fear of dying from heat exhaustion.
However, I have come to learn that it’s not as deathly cold here in California as I always seem to think, and layering is all about taking off the layers (novel idea) or exposing some skin (ohh la la).
Whether it be jeans paired with a light tee and sweater, or a dress paired with a t-shirt, having breathable pieces that work together and don’t sit heavy on the frame is all that layering is about...I mean, right?
While this outfit includes a turtleneck, the actual neck has a tie in the back, so I can make it as tight or as loose as I want. Also, the fabric is breathable, so while the dress maybe more polyester based with a blend of cotton, the shirt that sits directly on my skin is the most breathable layer being a thinner cotton blend.
Also, paired with a ponytail and some fun boots, my legs are exposed enough to keep me cool during the heat of the day, and I get the fun benefits of pretending it’s fall with these fun booties. I love anything that looks a little vintage or retro, and I think this outfit also achieves that fun look!
Maybe I’m not the most knowledgeable when it comes to layering, but I hope this helped you outline some fun looks for fall. And, if all else fails, shopping and experimenting is always fun, and that’s what fashion is all about anyways, right?
