Okay. Is this a tunic? No..Maybe?
Is this an oversized button-down? Yes.
Is it from the men’s sections? Also, yes.
Something I love ismenswear. One of my biggest fashion inspirations, next to Audrey Hepburn, is Harry Styles. The effortless, metropolitan vibe of a loose cotton V-neck tee and some skinnies just screams cool-girl chic. I love and feel most myself when my clothes are basic, breathable and semi-structured. Now, I love dresses, but when I’m in a pinch my go-to is a pair of jeans and a tee.
All of this to say, sometimes “men’s-wear inspired” is not as great as “men’s-wear proper,” and I think this button-down proves all of that. I love the oversized feel and look. I feel like a chic painter ready to change the world with my poetic, cultured outlook on the world. I also love that lighter-wash skinnies paired with the billowing tee balances out my frame so I don’t look too swallowed up by my clothes. The flower detail on my bag and shoes also gives a little girlish touch making the whole look seem more fémme.
During fall, this is a favorite shirt of mine to grab. It’s linen, so it’s breathable, and it’s white so I feel light and airy. When shopping anything oversized, it’s best to get the garment in a fabric that breathes. Since the piece is large to begin with, you don’t need the fabric weighing you down as well. Also, something with some darting tor tailoring around the torso is also a huge benefit. While men’s shirts don’t have a tailored waist (obvs) they do have some darting around the chest and a more fitted inseam that helps add to a slightly more structured look.
Any linen or cotton piece is a great option and parlays nicely into a layered wardrobe, no?
